The Parramatta Aquatic & Leisure Centre, a groundbreaking project initiated in May 2022 and successfully completed in December 2022, stands as a testament to innovation and collaboration in construction. The primary goal was to create a modern and efficient facility that seamlessly blends with its surroundings while providing state-of-the-art amenities for the community.
The successful realisation of this project was made possible through the concerted efforts of various key parties. Lipman Builders, Grimshaw Architects, Tonkin Consulting Engineers and HD Rigging played a crucial role in ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of the project.
The project involved the installation of 120 precast panels, each measuring 120mm in thickness. In total, these panels cover an impressive 1,860 square meters, weighing approximately 570 tons.
One of the standout features of the Parramatta Aquatic & Leisure Centre is its innovative design. The building appears to be subtly nestled beneath the hill, providing an integration with the natural landscape. The defining feature is an 80.4m diameter circle formed by the precast panels, creating a visually striking element visible from above.
Suspended from a concealed structural steel frame, the precast panels serve a dual purpose of housing the electrical and mechanical services required for the smooth operation of the facility. This approach ensures that the infrastructure remains hidden, maintaining the clean and minimalist aesthetics of the interior spaces.
